Tyre Maintenance

At G&H Tyre Services, we understand the importance of keeping your tyres in tip top condition for as long as possible. Tyres are an essential component of every vehicle. However, tyre care and maintenance can often go overlooked. It can also be thought that tyre care can be put off until the  annual MOT check. At G&H Tyre Services, we want to make it as easy as possible to care for your vehicle’s tyres. That’s why we have compiled this simple care guide to keep your tyres at ultimate performance for longer.

Regularly check your tyre pressure

Something as simple as tyre pressure can seriously affect your tyres and their functioning. Whether being over or under inflated, tyre pressure can affect how your vehicle drives and performs. Fuel consumption levels can change depending on the amount of tyre pressure, as well as being susceptible to issues such as tyre blowouts and lose vehicle control. You should check your tyre pressure at least every month and before long journeys with heavy loads.

Your optimum tyre pressure can be found in your vehicle’s owner’s manual and can be checked at your local petrol station. On the side of the tyre, you will also find the maximum amount of pressure the tyre can withstand. However, this is a maximum and should not be considered for everyday use.  You can also purchase affordable personal pressure gauges so you can check your vehicle’s tyre pressure in the comfort of your own driveway/garage.

Check for signs of damage or wear

The most obvious way to maintain your tyres is to check for signs of damage, wear and tear and deal address the issue as soon as possible. Signs may include uneven wearing, patchy wearing and feathering marks. Each type of wearing can signify an issue with the tyres, such as over or under  inflation, alignment or an array of problems.

Another thing to check for is any visible sign of punctures or embedded objects.
